Preface Deepens Hometown Partnerships with Schools in Gwinnett County, GA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Preface, Berkmar High School, and Hopkins Elementary School are jointly announcing an exciting intra-school cluster expansion of the Preface model to serve the next generation, building on existing community relationships and previous partnerships in the Peach State.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA. – At the start of the new year, Preface further deepened its existing relationships in its home base of Gwinnett County to foster equality through education and early childhood literacy. Building on its pilot program with Berkmar High School prior to the pandemic, the newly launched and completely virtual partnership between Berkmar High School and Hopkins Elementary School represents an innovative addition to the Preface framework, focused on intra-school cluster student empowerment.

“Hopkins Elementary School is excited to be partnering with Preface to support our elementary students in developing reading and literacy skills,” said Hopkins Elementary School Principal Gabriel Zaragoza. “During this challenging time, it is wonderful to have community support and assistance in achieving our goals! Preface, in collaboration with Berkmar High school student Ambassadors, is assisting us in our mission of ‘Helping children achieve their personal best while increasing student achievement’ by providing tutors to assist our primary students with reading.”

Assistant Principal Cindy Moffett of Berkmar High School echoed these thoughts, saying, “As Berkmar High School endeavors to graduate students prepared for enlistment, enrollment, and employment, it is important to us that we help our young adults become the best versions of themselves in the classroom and beyond. Our partnership with Preface Project is helping us to do just that as they provide our student Ambassadors tremendous opportunity to tap into the power of its organization’s pillars of progress - Community Engagement, Relational Uplift, and Educational Impact."

"On the tails of a successful 2019-2020 collaboration with Preface Project and Lilburn Elementary," continued Moffett, "our high school student Ambassadors are receiving excellent training to now work with students at Hopkins Elementary - a cluster school that feeds into our high school. The collaborative efforts between our schools and Preface are a great wrap-around support system for students and teachers alike, working to adjust to needs of the blended learning environments.”

“One-to-one and small group tutoring being offered weekly can help to bridge comprehension gaps and foster early childhood literacy, which is the foundation for success,” agreed Zaragoza. “We are very appreciative of the interest, collaboration and support provided to ensure that our students have a chance to be successful during this time.”

Preface leadership noted that additional local partnerships remain in progress to continue complementing high-level efforts to strengthen school feeder clusters throughout Gwinnett County – and beyond.

Moffett concluded, “It’s great to see additional resources and support are there for our in-person and digital leaners. Expanding its reach to support our school cluster, Preface’s initiative is truly a value-added program supporting immediate language needs of our young learners and enhancing the trajectory of our high schoolers’ post-secondary opportunities. We look forward to great results for all of the stakeholders connected to our partnership with Preface Project!”
