Preface Honored by GA Dept. of Education, Presents at 7th Annual Dual Language Immersion Institute

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Preface leadership shared highlights and takeaways from its pioneering relational engagement model with educators from across the country.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA. – On the heels of being recognized by the Georgia Department of Education as an innovative program to watch, Preface further cemented its status as a leading Georgia-grown approach to early childhood literacy with its presentation to educators at the Department’s 7th Annual Dual Language Immersion Institute.

Engaging with academic leaders and principals across America, Preface Founder & Executive Director, Jonathan “JT” Wu, and National Advisory Council Expert, Dr. Wandy Taylor, jointly highlighted Preface’s unique pedagogical approach to language acclimation – and the innovative ways its in-person and virtual models have produced results for the next generation.

“One of the things I noticed as an educator and as a school principal, was that, for many of our [ESOL] students, their [non-English] first language was still very important,” said Dr. Wandy Taylor, one of Preface’s Expert National Advisors. “Opportunities to use that first language in combination with what they were having to learn to read in English was something that I sought as a principal – but often wasn’t there. So, when we started talking about Preface… that was the lightbulb. We don’t want our children to lose that second language as they’re learning English, so this is really a great and no-cost opportunity for students: a win-win on both the high school and the elementary ends.”

Wu agreed, adding that Preface was grateful to be supported by and partnering with the Georgia Department of Education to further assist teachers and their students during the unprecedented challenges of COVID-19 era learning. Thanks to the support of educational leaders, both in its home state and across the country, Preface is well-positioned to keep expanding its no-cost model of literacy acclimation to help empower communities across America.
