FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Preface presented its school partners at Lilburn Elementary School with an inaugural Legacy Gift of bilingual books for their in-house library earlier this year, a gift made possible by private support alongside a generous Community Champion grant from Constellation, an Exelon company.
GWINNETT COUNTY, GA. – Preface further solidified its innovative early childhood literacy relationships with its partnership schools earlier this year by using grant funding to establish the Preface Legacy Gift program, donating its inaugural gift of bilingual books to further enhance the in-house library at Lilburn Elementary School. The first disbursement of books, a specially curated selection of dual-language English and Spanish literature published by the Scholastic Corporation, was presented by Preface leadership to Lilburn Elementary School Principal Dr. Guerlene Merisme in a special ceremony earlier this month.
Established in 2020, the Preface Legacy Gift program serves as a customized nexus of both public interests and private funds, providing tailored selections of bilingual books to serve the unique communities within Preface partner schools. In conjunction with administrators and community leaders, each Legacy Gift is customized to meet the diverse linguistic needs of that school’s population – with an emphasis on bilingual publications that encourage English language acclimation alongside native language retention.
“This inaugural Legacy Gift to our incredible partners at Lilburn Elementary School is possible thanks to the generous support of private donors alongside corporate and community leaders, like Constellation, an Exelon Company,” said Jonathan “JT” Wu, Founder & Executive Director of Preface. “By investing in the Preface model and our multilingual Ambassadors through programs like the Community Champion Grant Initiative, our mission partners help us continue fighting to ensure that every child, regardless of their native language, has the opportunity to achieve their own American Dream.”
Wu added that successive book disbursements under the umbrella of the Preface Legacy Gift Program would create a lasting pipeline of student impact for years to come, starting with the inaugural gift to Lilburn Elementary School. With continued support for Preface from both corporate and civil society, Preface is set to continue transforming lives and fostering opportunity for the next generation – with a multilingual twist.
