FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thanks to a generous gift by the daughters of Dr. Clara and Mr. Teddy Sylianco, alongside a generous match from Earth Baby, Preface established its inaugural scholarship program to provide one-time awards to up to four students pursuing higher education and focused on living lives fighting for “Equality Through Education.”
GWINNETT COUNTY, GA. – In an exciting milestone for the organization, Preface has announced the establishment of its first-ever scholarship program, aimed at supporting up to four exceptional student leaders fighting for “Equality Through Education” and the Preface values of Literacy, Community, and Opportunity in their higher education journeys.
Funded through generous gifts by Eunice and Lorraine Sylianco, as well as a generous matching grant by Earth Baby, the newly established CT Sylianco Scholarship aims to recognize college-bound seniors dedicated to living lives that honor the legacies of its namesakes – Dr. Clara Y. Lim and Mr. Teodoro “Teddy” Sylianco – two pioneering individuals in the worlds of academia and business.
“Our parents believed fervently that education was the key to unlocking a lifetime of opportunity for every individual,” said Eunice and Lorraine Sylianco in prepared joint remarks. “Our mother’s love for teaching was evident in her packed undergraduate and graduate classes; and, over the course of her teaching career, she directly advised and mentored a large academic family of hundreds of students – many of whom have risen to distinction in their own fields and continue to champion her legacy of lifelong learning. Through the CT Sylianco Scholars Program, we’re excited to ensure that their legacy of learning and opportunity lives on to inspire and enrich the lives of the next generation, just like it did for them.”
Under the terms of the program, up to 4 CT Sylianco Scholars will be selected each year, with each receiving a one-time $500 award, paid directly to their higher educational institution. Officials noted that prior Preface involvement is not a prerequisite for eligibility, as any high school senior living in a defined Preface Operational State and with plans to enroll in an institution of higher education in the fall is eligible to apply for the CT Sylianco Scholarship.
“These generous gifts by the Sylianco sisters and Earth Baby represent such extraordinary commitments to rewarding the next generation of service-oriented student leaders and investing in their future impacts on the next generation,” added Jonathan “JT” Wu, Preface’s Founder & Executive Director. “Every single day, our Ambassadors exemplify the incredible impacts that can be made by living out lives of service – but even beyond Preface, we realize that there are countless other students who may be fighting for Literacy, Community, and Opportunity in their own neighborhoods and in their own ways. We look forward to continuing to advance the Preface mission of “Equality Through Education” and early childhood literacy by recognizing and awarding students being beacons of hope for young children in their own backyards!"
Full application instructions, biographical details on the Scholarship's namesakes, and additional details around eligibility and deadlines can be found here.
Interested applicants should apply here by May 7, 2021 to be considered for the Inaugural CT Sylianco Scholarship awards.
